It has been many a moon since your beloved Maple Leafs were two points out of playoff territory in the Eastern Conference. They can assume that frightening posture with a victory tonight over the Panthers in Sunrise FL. Let's fire up a chat here for the second day in a row. Are you feeling better, Leafers, after the win last night in Raleigh, and James Reimer's unanticipated outing?
About Andrew being a joke? Or, realxing and enjoying hockey?
Indeed, "garbage time" has not reared its ugly head this season (yet), because the Leafs started their annual revival a bit earlier. Boston will be a tough game, but Leafs have beaten the Bruins home and away so far this season. Confidence shouldn't be an issue.
Andrew is a monolith among media types. And, it will definitely be Jean-Sebastien Giguere tonight, unless he does the splits in the warm-up.
Bottle up them pills, Michael. And, put a patent on them.
Agree on Kulemin. Last line is a mystery. Please clarify.
I thought that's what supositories were for.
Andrew is like "that" because he attracts a listening audience being like "that" -- including all that are complaining about him to me today. And, stop praying that Giguere won't be in goal tonight. Wasted energy.
The hockey crowd in Toronto has been (and continues to be) forever reactionary, but there's been a much better atmosphere in the building of late, resulting from the playoff push. Conservative nature of Leafs crowd isn't going to change. Circumstance, however, can. And, the ACC was as noisy and rabid as I've heard it in years during the final moments of the Buffalo game on Saturday. I was at ice level, in the corner to left of Ryan Miller, and the joint was rocking. It will be an absolute mad-house if Leafs sneak into the playoffs.
I could certainly destroy Andrew's ratings. But, thanks for listening. I'll be in studio with Roger Lajoie tomorrow from 9-10 a.m. Jeff Blair is roughing it at spring training in Florida.
First of all, the Teachers aren't selling anything until they get their price... trust me. Second, I agree the pension fund has been a decent owner in the post-lockout NHL. Funds for players and executives have not been an issue. As for the desire of some fans to have a spokesperson from the controlling group... that's where your point comes in. Brian Burke talks for the hockey operation. No one above him is needed, or qualified.
Not sure I've ever seen anything as ridiculous as the West right now. The other day, three points seperated fourth place from 10th. Not much of an error margin left for Calgary to make playoffs... or any other contending team in the conference.
Oh yes, paranoia is a wonderful trait. Rampant among older hockey fans in this city for sure. What is your age?
He was in play with Leafs when they drafted him. Then, they dealt him at the 2003 trade deadline (with Alyn McCauley and a first-round pick) to San Jose for Owen Nolan. The trade seemed to make sense at the time, given Leafs were about to win division and host opening playoff round. But, Nolan blew out his knee. Since then, Boyes has bounced around from Sharks to Boston to St. Louis and, now, Buffalo. I don't think he fits the mold of a Burke-type player, though he does have lots of skill. Perhaps a bit too soft for the type of club double-B is trying to build.
Go back and see how often Joe Thornton played in his first season with the Bruins. Would you take HIM now as the Leafs' number-one centre? Joe was a first-overall pick; Seguin went second behind Taylor Hall last summer. And, don't put a wad of cash on Seguin turning out to be another Daigle. Unless you have money to burn.
Leafs certainly have a better record when Colby is in the line-up, but he won't be for their remaining games in the regular season, so the club must find that energy elsewhere. Didn't seem to be an issue in Raleigh last night.
Probably lack of will/desire. No hot-shot junior has ever just "shown up" in the NHL and succeeded. Not even Wayne Gretzky. Not Bobby Orr. They both worked like hell at the game. Not sure Daigle took it as seriously as he should have when it most counted.
Keith Aulie. I told him later I didn't realize his shot COULD break a pane of glass.
There was an interview, it just wasn't shown live on TV.
We all expected Giguere to start last night's game until we found out differently, minutes before puck-drop. Try and remember that Wilson is under no obligation to announce his starting goalie, or any aspect of his line-up, until it is presented to the game officials after the warm-up. He strongly hinted it would be Giguere in goal against the Hurricanes. It was his prerogative to change that plan and the result shows he made a pretty good call. That said, I'll be doubly surprised if Giggy isn't in there against Florida, as Leafs -- with Boston here Saturday -- play three games in four nights.
No, why would Mats snub the Leafs? They didn't send him packing; he chose to leave as a free agent after the 2008-09 season. Shouldn't the leading scorer in franchise history show up for a jersey ceremony? Don't believe it will be an issue at all.
Shouldn't you be asking who the sexiest woman is? Or am I assuming your orientation, which isn't very nice on my part?
The Lebda-Mike Komisarek tandem was a bit frightening the other night against Tampa Bay. That's why the Leafs hurried Matt Lashoff onto the flight to Raleigh. Lebda was an insurance signing in case Burke traded Tomas Kaberle in the six-week window last summer. Though he occasionally did play a regular shift in Detroit, Lebda has been rarely decent in Blue & White. Next season is a long way off, but I assume Burke will try to land another d-man.
