MLB Tigers @ Jays February 27th
Miked Up LIVE
- Live from Lakeland - the Blue Jays and Tigers are going at it! Marc Rzepczynski and Jesse Litsch will take their first shots at spots in the rotation, Adeiny Hechevarria and Brett Lawrie form the left side of the infield, and don't forget Eric Thames. In left field today, he's a guy to keep an eye on!
- Spending the afternoon listening to the game while I read Scorecasting. This has the makings of a great day.
- Mike, were you and Jerry describing Lawrie hitting home runs, to the palms?
- I was, yes. He did - so did Eddie - in batting practice.
- Man I wish SN would televise these games. Even put them on SN1 or SN Ontario in SD using 1 lousy camera.....we could even just use the radio for audio.
- Hello Mike!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! All the best! Anyway just curious about Thames, yes we have heard his name but unlike Adeiny and Lawrie and others, you never hear if he is a legitmate major leaguer, in the next year or two? What kind of ceiling does he have?
- HIgh ceiling - would have been a much higher pick had he not been hurt in his draft year. He's had nothing but success as a pro.
- Yeah they should be on T.V for sure.
- This is Matt Brown from Sportsnet Radio The Fan 590 and I'll be contributing as well.
- Hey, everybody, say hello to Matt Brown! He's producing the live blog today, among his many other duties. Talk to him, talk amongst yourselves, and I'll pop in every once in a while. Remember to follow me @InTheWilnerness!
- I have a bet with my friend on Bautista's HR total this year - I took under 35.5. Am I overly pessimisitic?
- Is David Cooper going to start the season in Triple-A ?
- Thames 2012 or 2013, if all goes well for him?
- Really interesting spring to follow this year with so many battles for the remaining spots on the 25 man roster.
- Cooper might, but the Jays signed Ryan Shealy, so he's probably the 1b there. Thames could be up as soon as this year, if all goes well.
- Any other Jays /prospects offering power displays in BP?
- Mike your gut (I know it's early), Lind and Hill more like 2009 or 2010?
- Hey Mike. Where is Lawrie expected to play when he makes the Blue Jays? 2B or 3B right ?
- If Cooper doesn't get the bump to Triple-A that would mean Mike McDade is stuck in Single-A for another season even though he won the R. Howard Webster Award. Why do you think the Jays signed a 31 year old fringe player to occupy a posistion where it seems we have some potential?
- Mike, what can you tell about Thames defensively? Average? Better? Worse? Do you think he could play RF, or is he a LF in the big leagues?
- I can't see the Jays keeping the influx of starting pitching or rather sending em down to Triple A, you think they may deal some before the end of spring training?
- When do you see Chad Jenkins knocking on the big league door? What role will he have?
- Who has a better chance of making the rotation, zep or litsch?
- I think you Litsch is the front runner ahead of Zep, but who knows what could happen throughout spring training
- I would think Litsch just from experience alone
- IMO, Lawrie will play 3rd..Cooper will play in AAA, McDade in AA,Jenkins wont be knocking until 2013
- Well that was a good showing for Z's first couple of innings.
- Litsch will make the rotation and be showcased for a mid season trade.
- Stewart is a sleeper to be the 5th starter. Of the other 2 I like Zep better. Never been impressed by Litsch
- Zep and Litsch make the rotation
- I'd like to see what Thames can do against lefties before I get too excited.
- I agree I don't think Litsch is likely to stick with jays long term
- Zep threw 2 perfect innings, 1K, 20 pitches, 14 strikes
- @Jordan Why?
- Zep with two great innings after lighting up winter ball
- I'd like to see Rzep & Litsch make the team out of spring to increase their trade value moving forward - then trade them both at some point throughout the year and bring up Drabek & Stewart.
- Now or never for Zep
- Why is that, Guru?
- Seems like if Litsch puts up a pretty good spring training, he could be dangled as some quality trade bait. But what positions would the Jays be looking to fill for the future? LF?
- Yeah that will probably happen
- if they are dealing litsch probably an OF??
- It's time to see if Zep is a part of the Jays future
- If you guys had to bet on it, would would you say takes the last 2 rotation spots?
- Where would you say the Blue Jays are weakest? If there was trade to be made, where would we want improvement?
- @Bryan M I would bet on Drabek and Zep.
