Sportsnet Radio THE FAN 590 Live Chat
MLB Tigers @ Jays February 26th
Miked Up LIVE!
- Alright folks, the snow is falling in Toronto but it's a beautiful day in Dunedin, Florida and Blue Jays baseball is back on Sportsnet Radio THE FAN 590!
- Baseball is back - how awesome is that????? The Blue Jays and Tigers are set to go, and we're on the air along the Blue Jays Radio Network! This is your place to chat it up about the Jays, the game, the broadcast and we're looking forward to another great year! That guy above me is Gord Brunt, who is producing back at the ranch - you're going to love him, too!
- @michael.wilner Whats the atmosphere over in Dunedin right now?
- Welcome back to chat-land, Mike. So pumped for the spring to be underway!
- Fantastic, AJ!
- Whose in Toronto's starting lineup today, Mike?
- Jays' lineup vs. Det: Davis8, Escobar6, Bautista5, Lind3, Rivera9, Encarnacion0, Patterson7, Arencibia2, McDonald4 - Cecil1 (Courtesy of Mike's twitter)
- Mike, are there a lot of extra players at the game to be subbed-in later on? If so, interesting prospects?
- No one has been sent out yet, so everyone is here! We're likely to see guys like Gose, Lawrie, Hechevarria among others.
- Hi Mike...snowing here in Brampton, but I'm north of Steeles (aka The Arctic Circle) so it shouldn't be unexpected...in your interview before the game with John Farrell, he stated that Lind should/hopefully? bounce back to 2009 form given his track record. Do you think some are using that same logic to criticize the Jays for their offer to Bautista with his "track record" being not too impressive?
- Yes, some are. But I don't know if the logic really follows.
- From some of your tweets, is it fair to say Brett Lawrie has impressed you a bunch?
- Yep!
- These don't have to all be questions for me, by the way. I want this to be a place where Jays fans gather to talk about the game and the team, so feel free to chat it up!
- Have there been any rumblings around Dunedin about Toronto's long-term spring training plans? In past years some writers have speculated that the Blue Jays could leave before the lease is up (in 2016, I think).
- I have heard nothing this spring, but Arizona would be nice. ;-)
- Anybody know the whereabouts of Jermaine Dye?...great player who seemed to vanish into thin air.
- Sounds like Johnny Mac will already be on Grapefruit plays of the week.
- It would be nice if the Blue Jays could land in a spring training ballpark with more comfortable seats than Florida Auto Exchange Stadium. When I've been there, I've been in agony by the 5th inning.
- Any updates on McGowan? Is he throwing at 100 percent yet?
- I believe he is, but he isn't scheduled to throw in any games yet.
- I think I read a few weeks ago that Dye was semi-retired. No team has offered him a suitable contract, so he's opted to stay home.
- Hey guys, SO happy spring training is here. A little worried about Snider and Hill, but hopefully they heal fast.
- A few buddies and I are planning to go to Cooperstown for the HOF induction weekend. Any advice on travelling to the event,
- @new brunswicker...thanks for the Dye update...waste of a good ball player.
- or on places to stay. Thanks!
- Great little story about EE and Bautista just mentioned on the FAN.
- @Jon Stark, that was a really interesting story and shows a ton about the character AND leadership role of Bautista.
- Great to hear about the strong performance earlier today in the B game by Gose.
- Im so glad spring training is here. Can't wait for opening day. Go jays go!!
- @NewfieMike ya, that cannot help but make one feel better about his contract. He really sounds like a great leader.
- Mike.......Is it having the privilege to have been in the Boston dugout and having Ellsbury and Pedroia do what they do on the basepaths that has John Farrell promoting smallball, for lack of a better term?..or does living or dying with the home run scare him somewhat?
- I don't know if either characterization is fair. I think he just sees what he has and has figured out what he thinks is the best way to use it.
- Baseball is the greatest sport, sorry hockey fans. Can't wait until the reg season, Big tigers and jays fan. Great playoff matchup this or next year.
- Small Ball can win you a ton of games!!!
- Mike, what other options do the Blue Jays have if Adam Lind and his defense falter at 1B?
- @_Justink, the immediate options for such a scenario would be *gulp* Edwin Encarnacion and if all of that fails, possibly throwing Bautista over there could be an option
- Was the wild pitch a catching mistake by JP?
- Don't like to sound like a broken record dating back to late last year, but I don't know who will get the tough lefties out late in games that Scott Downs did arguably as good as anyone.
- Justin - Encarnacion. Newbie - No.
- Mike - good to be chatting with you again! The bullpen situation is intriguing. Sounds like there are 5 locks - Francisco, Rauch, Dotel, Frasor & Camp. I think Purcey has to be in there one because they need and lefty and two, he's out of options. Who is the 7th guy in your opinion?by Steve via iPhone 2/26/2011 7:15:52 PM
- But Mike, it seems that the Jays went out and got these guys (Davis, Podsednik, Patterson) under Farrell's watch so he's got the type of team he wants not so much looking at what he has...He has what he/they went out and acquired.
- Small ball can also limit the big inning if not used correctly.
- Are any of the guys who played in the B game available?
- OK, gang, I'm heading downstairs to gather some tape for a while - in Spring Training clubhouses are open throughout the game so we can grab guys as they leave the game. Enjoy the rest of the game, Gord Brunt will keep you entertained!
