Miked Up LIVE
- Hey guys!
- No internet in Clearwater sadly...So @Wilnerness590 should be one of your explorer tabs.
- Back online for now, but not sure for how long. I'll be here as much as I can.
- The phillies have bad internet because they're pinching pennies for when the terrible Howard extension kicks in.
- Explorer tabs? You need to discover the magic of firefox or chrome, Joel.
- @1234 Fair enough...I'm warming to Firefox for sure
- Hello Mike, good to see the live blog back and running again. My wish for 2011 this season, my baseball New Year's resolution, if you will, is the Jays don't do the shaving cream in the face after every big win, and on the Jays Talk, there's no Halladay/Holiday thing going between you and the callers, not too much to ask, in my opinion anyway.
- Mike, do you have an idea of Hutchinson's repitoire?
- Alan just said what I was thnking, how much are we going to miss Overbay with those long arms and making all those catches others don't
- Rajai Davis is going to be fun to watch patrolling centre. Vdub was getting by on good jumps and angles, nice to have some speed out there again.
- Rajai's speed is pretty ridiculous.
- @ Dan M. - I was just thinking that...could be one of MLB's best moves this offseason.
- is the Jays' roster basically set now with McCoy as the last position player? Who is added if Hill isn't ready to come north?
- I would think that the roster is set - if you heard on the pre-game, Jason Frasor spilled the beans that Marc Rzepczynski is coming north, which makes me believe that players, or at least the pitchers, have been told who has made the team.
- Hey Mike, how do you think Rauch's FB% going to play out at Rogers Centre? I thought he was nice in 2010 but Target is the anti-RC. I can't see him repeating his 3.1 HR/FB% in 2011.
- It'll be interesting to see, for sure. So strange that Target played so huge all last season but Encarnacion made it look like a bandbox.
- why not bring up a pitcher from AAA (Mills, Richmond, Ray, etc) to pitch today's game?
- Just passing along info for anyone who is not familiar with Hutchison. THrows both 2 and 4 seam fastball with sink, Good changeup. Many liken his repetoire to that of Shaun Marcum, but Hutchison doesnt have the curve or slider reliable yet. His fastball works from the high 80's to the low 90's, not overpowering.
- Come on, folks - I know you're out there. Let's get to chatting Blue Jays!
- Is Rzepczynski going to be a long man or a LOOGY? Bascially, is he more like Tallet or Downs (not that downs was/is a specialist)?
- Just got back from my 1st spring training visit - great time!
- Anyway, Mike do you think Rzep would be better served remaining as a starter (in AAA), or do you like the move to the pen?
- I think Zep is going to be far more like Downs than like Tallet, but not really like either one. He has a killer left-on-left slider, and John Farrell will put that into good use. I have always thought that he'd have more value as a starter, but he may very well have found his niche here.
- Hi Mike, now that the team decided not make a decision on the 4-5 spots and started Morrow on the DL, do you believe the Jays will limit Morrows starts in April, May, or put a pitch count on him early to allow him to pitch into Sept. ?
- How much confidence should we have in Purcey as a lefty out of the Pen? I haven't been keeping track but he's not having a great spring is he?
- I think that Morrow will be watched all season long. No, Purcey isn't having a great spring, but he has a great arm. As it stands right now, he's going to be the 6th or 7th reliever.
- Mike, I was wondering if wind comes into play more often in spring training than the regular season?
- It looks to me from the grainy replay on MLB.com that Cory Patterson was indeed wearing the "new" Rawlings helmet that is rated to protect up to 100 MPH. Mike, can you ask him about it? Shouldn't this experience motivate Jays trainers and coaches to mandate these safer helmets' use?
- Five extra base hits and not one a long-fly. That probably never happened last year, just a guess. Looking forward to seeing a more balanced approach this year.
- You'd prefer five doubles and no homers to three doubles and two homers?
- Any concerns on Escobar's 'perceived' lack of speed? He looked pretty slow on both that double and his next at bat run to first.
- Will Gose be starting at A+ or AA?
- any chance Thames makes the team?
- @Dan M. I'd prefer those balls to carry out of the yard. \balanced approach is great, but HR is beter than 2B.
- Point taken. I'm sure they'll get their share of bombs too this year, but hopefully not at the expense of being in the bottom five in on-base%.
- Are we starting to see why the Braves soured on Escobar?
- Listening on the Fan 960 in Calgary. Mike, do you what EE said to Escobar? Was it something along the lines of, "You can do better than that." ?
- I don't know what to think about Escobar - he's certainly not the only one who doesn't run out ground balls, or who gears down before the play is over. It does tend to stand out to me when he does, though. I have no idea what Encarnacion said to him. How could I possibly know?
- Escobar has only one year of control left right? Will we see Hechevarria as a call up this year?
- Hey Mike .. did u know Kyle got married in the offseason ! he married a girl that has been on Survivor 2x and she was a fan fave named Stephanie LaGrossa
- Mike, I liked the IntotheWilnerness, why did you change it?
- Do you think Showalter is right about his predictions for his Baltimore Orioles? Is it possible last place in the AL East could be 80 wins?
- Escobar has two more years of control, I believe. I doubt we'll see Hechevarria this season. Changed my Twitter handle to reflect my work on Sportnet Radio The Fan 590. Doubt very much that all the teams in the AL East will win at least 80 games.
- How would you summarize JP's spring so far? I know he's still very young and has yet to play a full season in the bigs, but it's safe to say I have a little bit of concern about whether his hitting in AAA will translate to the big league level. Again, I know it's still early, so it's only a very very small amount of concern. Should I be concerned?
- @cmessina I think Baltimore is improved and like T.O, they are relying on some young pitchers to step up. As for 80 wins, anything can happen.
