Sportsnet Radio THE FAN 590 Live Chat
MLB Jays @ Minnesota Twins
March 20th, 2011
- Good afternoon, everyone! It's an Opening Day preview with the Blue Jays and Twins hooking up here at the FAES. Jesse Litsch takes another stride towards opening the season in the rotation, and Brett Lawrie is doing a little DHing! Say hi to producer Matt Brown and let's talk baseball!
- Great job by Lind to get the first run in!!
- Zach Stewart was sent down the other day...is his future in the rotation or the back end of the bullpen?
- I guess we can't even get ST games onver the internet on the fan. BTW, how had Lind looked this spring?
- In your opinion, how far away are Gose and D'Arnaud?
- 1 - Rotation. 2 - You can through mlb.com,has nothing to do with the radio station. Lind had looked, and continues to look, very good this spring. 3 - Far enough away that you won't see them in the majors this year, and they'll more than likely to be longshots next year.
- Where do you see Rzep fitting in with the Jays bullpen? Do you think he becomes a leading candidate for closer?
- Thankfully Fan 960 Calgary decided to broadcast the game on the radio. Also, I'm really liking John Farrell as the head skipper, the more I hear interviews with him. I think he has a good grasp and idea on what he wants out of this team.
- Also...what is the status of Jesse Carlson...at last check, his shoulder checked out fine but was shut down for a week. Thanks!
- Do you think they will look to move Rivera before the trade deadline, or are the content leaving Lawrie in Vegas for awhile.
- How does Lind look at the plate so far this spring?
- Mike, is Hill able to break out of the box without pain yet?
- How do you find dealing with the new skip compared to Cito?
- Why has Snider been restricted to LF? He seemed fine in RF last year, and a better option than Davis at any rate when Rivera sits/is traded.
- @Terry R. Fan590 on Rogers 904
- @Neal - There was an article on bluejays.com , Carlson still doesn't have a return date. He said he is feeling better.
- I know you are spreading yourself very thin with all you do, but I am glad it is you who is running the chat! Thank you.
- OK, let me try to get through a bunch of these:
- -Not sure why anyone would think Zep would be in the closer mix, let alone be the leader.
- Rivera may very well stay with the big club the whole season, though Lawrie could easily force the issue in Vegas.
- So did Eric Thames not like his name being pronounced the same as that river in London, England. Bugs me every time I hear "Thaemms"
- @nearlydenzil because IF that happens then Jose will play RF and they'll call up Lawrie
- Mike, do you think that Jo-Jo Reyes will be this year's version of Dana Eveland (i.e. start the year as #5 starter, see what he can bring to the table early on, then moved out to make room for one of the younger pitchers)?
- Zep predictions?
- I don't think Hill has really let it loose yet, but he'd better do it today or tomorrow since he's playing in the A game on Tuesday
- Just a comment, I absolutley love the pitch counts on Gameday in the spring! 14 pitches ,14 strikes! Litsch looks super sharp ;)
- I'm really enjoying dealing with Farrell - he gives good, thoughtful answers to the questions he gets all the time. And Snider is in left for now. I have a feeling his days as a rightfielder aren't done yet.
- Litsch has looked great!
- @pucknballs I think that's exactly Jo-Jo's most likely result.
- @michael.wilner it was more a kicking the tires idea with Zep as closer
- Asking if he'd be the leader in the battle didn't sound like tire-kicking, that's all.
- Hey, everyone - Matt Brown is our producer today, and he'll be running this chat for the most part. Make him feel welcome!!
- I have not been following spring training, and this may have been done to death. But was Vernon Wells, requesting to leave the Blue jays ?
- The one thing I like about the Jays this year is their flexibility...they can move guys around seemingly around the field where necessary (injuries etc.) and not lose anything offensively (as long as they don't have prolonged batting slumps). Farrell will be able to use the 25 man roster to an advantage.
- speaking of Copper and 1st rounders, what ever happend to Kevin Ahrens? is hs still in our system?
- Ahrens is here today, and will likely get in this game in the late-going. Vernon never asked out.
- @baseball junky No
- Mike, given the injuries in the pen this year, it seems clear that AA is going to have to do a fair bit of juggling early on in the year. That said, who in camp, still in consideration for a bullpen job, is out of options? Who is the most likely to spend some time in the minors until the roster situation stabilizes?
- Reyes and Purcey are the main consideratons who are out of options. Villanueva and Janssen are the bubble guys who may have to spend some time in the minors.
- @michael.wilner and thoughts on Ahrens?
- That's a nice inning for Litsch. I like the 5 Ks!
- @michael.wilner Can't see Villanueva being to happy about being delt for and then being shipped out to the minors
- When Lawrie finally gets sent down to AAA, i'm guessing you'll be getting about 2-3 questions every post Jays game asking you "When will the Jays call up Lawrie".
- Why is the listen Live restrictd?
- Well? Has the FAN sold it's soul to the MLB? am I no longer allowed to listen to the Jays online because i have to buy a MLB package
